ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Rymer Liriano was a triple short of the cycle, scoring three runs and driving home a couple as the Charlotte Knights defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 9-8 on Thursday.

Casey Gillaspie doubled twice and singled with three RBIs and a pair of runs for Charlotte.

Danny Farquhar allowed two runs, but struck Dylan Cozens out with a runner on first to end the game for his first save of the season.

Trailing 2-0 in the third, Charlotte cut into the lead when Eddy Alvarez hit an RBI single, bringing home Jacob May.

Trailing 7-3, the IronPigs cut into the deficit with three runs in the eighth inning, including a single by Cozens that scored Cameron Perkins.

The Knights later tacked on two runs in the ninth when Gillaspie hit an RBI double and then scored on a single by May to secure the victory.

Lehigh Valley saw its comeback attempt come up short after Brock Stassi hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning to cut the Charlotte lead to 9-8.

Charlotte right-hander Lucas Giolito (5-10) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing three runs on five hits over 6 2/3 innings. Opposing starter Ben Lively (7-4) took the loss in the International League game after a rough outing in which he allowed seven runs and 10 hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Stassi homered and singled, driving in three runs and scoring a pair for the IronPigs. Pedro Florimon homered and singled.
