The objective of the CFS -- the first event of this type for Calgary -- is to discuss progressive policy that will create and build an enhanced agricultural landscape in Calgary (including food security, food justice, food efficiency, urban agriculture, community gardens, sustainable agriculture and local food systems).
Many food initiatives are conducted on an independent basis. Bringing all participants in our food system together in one room is an ideal way for our communities to celebrate World Food Day. The timing for this type of local convergence is fantastic. We are on the heels of an amazing summer and the annual harvest season. Coupled with the unparalleled growth, awareness and development of the sustainable food movement in North America this event is sure to start intriguing conversation.
